We help churches to revitalize themselves as an organization on mission with God. Pursuing a Vision that is in alignment with a church's God-given Mission requires change. This change for improvement, or revitalization, is not easy. Max De Pree, retired CEO of the Herman Miller furniture manufacturing company and author of many books, points out that every organization has a tendency toward deterioration. He calls this entropy. The signs of entropy are following [taken from De Pree's book, Leadership is an Art (New York: Doubleday, 1989), pp. 98-99]:
* a tendency toward superficiality; * a "dark tension" among key people; * no longer having time for celebration; * problem-makers outnumbering problem-solvers; * the pressures of day-to-day operations pushing aside the concern for vision and risk.
